HP have a recycling programme which enables them to fully recycle their ink cartridges. The process for recycling HP ink cartridges is as follows:

1. Once cartridges are received at HP's recycling facility, they go through a de-packaging process

2. Cartridges are then automatically sorted into cartridge families by using an X-ray processing machine

3. They are then mechanically separated and shredded into raw materials such as plastics and metals

4. The shredded PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastics are then taken to a refining facility where they are mixed with recycled bottle resin and additives to create recycled PET or RPET.

5. The RPET is then heated and melted at 575F. The extruded spaghetti-like material is then cooled, chopped into small pieces and then shipped for processing.

HP's new policy ensures that raw materials are used efficiently, gives preference to suppliers that source fibre from credibly certified, sustainable sources, minimizes carbon products and waste in the manufacturing process and enables the responsible use and recycling of paper.

1. As part of the "going green" philosophy, HP Plotter take pre-loved Designjets and fully refurbish them to help reduce wastage.

2. We also supply all HP recycled bond papers which has been responsibly souced and manufactured, to help reduce the environmental impact of printing.

3. Where old machines have gone end of life, and parts are unavailable, we will (where possible) refurbish the parts to repair those machines where customers are unable or unwilling to upgrade.

1. Choose wide format media wisely. Choosing media that has been responsibly sourced and manufactured is one of the most important contributions you can make.

2. Choose a large-format printing solution which best helps you to use your media efficiently. HP Designjet Printers incorporate features to help you make the most efficient use of your media such as:

- empty print area detection helps your HP Designjet Printer to detect blank areas in print files and to exclude them from what it prints
- nesting tools for HP Designjet workgroup printers can manage jobs in a print queue to make optimal use of the media
- HP Instant Printing Utility 2.0 offers realistic print previews and an auto-rotate feature than can cut printing errors and help to save media

3. You can take steps to reduce your energy consumption and your carbon footprint. For example, by remembering to turn off your printer when equipment will not be used for an extended period of time, such as after working hours and during weekends.
