31 August 1999 - 08:43

Tuesday, August 31st 1999 PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug.31, 1999-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced its fall product portfolio of large- and wide-format printing products, which will provide customers with one of the large-format-printer industry's broadest ranges of printing solutions for graphics and technical professionals. ``Today's announcement coincides with burgeoning demand for large- and wide-format printing products,'' said Ignacio Fonts, marketing manager for HP's Inkjet Commercial Division, which designs and manufactures HP DesignJet printers.``These large- and wide-format printers provide increased productivity by enabling B-size output and improving the quality and performance of our large-format graphics solutions.''

HP's fall line-up of wide- and large-format printing solutions includes the following:

New CAD/GIS Printer

The HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD wide-format printer (U.S.estimated street price $1,450(1)) enables technical professionals to produce in-house output from 4 inches x 6 inches up to 11 inches x 17 inches full-bleed and is ideal for line drawings, renders, handouts and presentations.CAD users also can produce checkprints fast, allowing them to increase productivity and check draft designs on paper.

This printer incorporates the HP modular ink-delivery system, consisting of four individual high-capacity ink cartridges and four individual long-life printheads, equipped with smart chips that monitor ink levels and indicate when either cartridges or printheads need to be replaced. It delivers 600 x 600 dots per inch (dpi) resolution for accurate line drawings and sharp renderings.

The HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer uses the same HP DesignJet drivers for Windows® and AutoCAD(TM) as the HP DesignJet large-format printers and incorporates HP-GL/2 language as standard.CAD files can therefore be sent to either the HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD printer or another HP DesignJet printer without users having to change drivers or printing parameters. The printer offers 44MB standard memory for greater processing capacity.

New Printers for Graphic Designers

HP DesignJet ColorPro GA wide-format printer (U.S.estimated street price $1,995(1)) allows graphics professionals to proof, print and present graphic designs and images from 4 inches x 6 inches up to 11 inches x 17 inches full-bleed.The HP DesignJet ColorPro GA printer, which also incorporates the HP modular ink-delivery system, provides a high-performance solution for high-quality, full-bleed color comps and mockups.

The new printer includes Adobe® PressReady software with Adobe® PostScript® 3(TM) for quick and easy creation and printing of color-calibrated output that emulates several offset output standards. The printer is Pantone certified, and is compatible with Apple ColorSync, enabling repeatable, reliable and consistent color to be achieved on screen and in print.

HP has teamed with Imation Corp.to offer an upgrade path for the HP DesignJet ColorPro GA printer. The Imation Matchprint Inkjet System combines the Imation Matchprint Color RIP (Raster Image Processor) software, and specially developed Imation Matchprint Inkjet Bases, to generate high-quality inkjet proofs that simulate the true Imation Matchprint color standard.

The HP DesignJet 488CA large-format printer (U.S.estimated street price $3,195(1) 24-inch model and $4,195(1) 36-inch model), previously available only in Asia and Japan, is now available worldwide, providing graphic designers with a solution for printing output from letter to poster size.

The HP DesignJet 488CA printer can print a full-color 2-feet x 3-feet image in fewer than 18 minutes on HP Coated Paper and offers true 300-dpi color resolution, as well as addressable 600-dpi black resolution. The printer includes Adobe PostScript 3 via a software RIP, allowing users to print from all major graphic-design applications in both Macintosh and Microsoft® Windows environments.

New High-speed Solution for Print-for-pay Businesses

The HP DesignJet 2800CP and 3800CP large-format printers (U.S.estimated street price $13,995(1) and $18,995(1), respectively) enable mechanical printing speeds that are up to 60 percent faster than those obtained with the existing HP DesignJet 2500CP and 3500CP Series large-format printers. These additions to HP's portfolio of large-format printers are ideal for commercial and professional print-service providers, primarily quick-printers, graphic-arts service bureaus and digital-color print shops.

The improved speed and performance is achieved via a new set of high-speed print modes enabled by the printers' Electronics For Imaging Fiery X2-CP hardware Raster Image Processor (RIP).The new RIP allows users to achieve high resolution (600-dpi) output at higher speeds. In addition, EFI's new ColorWise Pro Tools application offers downloading and editing of ICC profiles for color matching of any output or simulation profile.

Media Flexibility

HP also introduced the HP Design Heavyweight Paper and HP Design Glossy Paper for the HP DesignJet ColorPro GA and HP DesignJet ColorPro CAD wide-format printers.Available in 13-inch x 19-inch size, this new media offers full-bleed output for graphics and technical professionals.
