How do I find my operating system (OS) version?

To find your operating system (OS) version on a Mac:

 

1.  From the Apple menu on the top left of your screen, select About This Mac

2.  The resulting window shows your operating system version.  In this example, you are using Mac OS X 10.5.3

To find your operating system (OS) version on a PC:

 

1.  IF YOU HAVE THE WINDOWS LOGO:  On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click the Windows logo, then in the open box 'Search Programs and files' type in "Winver".  Click on the winver.exe program file and it will show your Windows version via a pop-up window.

2.  IF YOU HAVE THE START LOGO: 
On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click the Start logo, then click on "Run".  Type winver and then click OK.  Your operating system should then appear.
