PALO ALTO, Calif., June 13, 2005 – HP today announced that the large-format HP Designjet 4000 Printer series is being integrated with GE Energy’s Smallworld 4 Product Suite, enabling GIS professionals to quickly produce high quality full-color and black and white prints with minimal user intervention. Using the HP Designjet 4000 Embedded Web Server together with the Smallworld application further enhances the printing workflow processes and improves manageability of installed printers.

“Smallworld users will see improved performance with the HP Designjet 4000 Printer series over earlier models, where printing speeds are faster for comparable output,” said Enrique Lores, Vice President & General Manager, HP Inkjet Commercial Division (ICD). “In addition, the printer set-up and job monitoring tools available via the Embedded Web Server enable users to manage media and consumables, while tracking job progress, from their desktop.”

Usability improvements in the Smallworld Core Spatial Technology 4 product, introduced in 2004, make creating and reproducing printed output simpler and faster to manage, saving many hours of effort. Leveraging the benefits of the HP Designjet 4000, GIS users working in a combined GE Energy and HP environment can maximize the value of their GIS data regardless of its format. They have the option of printing to the HP Designjet 4000ps using the embedded postscript driver or by creating a PDF file directly from the Smallworld application via the bundled Adobe® Acrobat® 7.0 software1.

Featuring the new HP Double Swath technology, the HP Designjet 4000 provides faster performance without sacrificing image quality, and delivers high-speed color and monochrome printing up to 42 inches wide with outstanding line accuracy, image quality and remote printer management. The HP Designjet 4000 printer provides a high resolution up to 2400 dpi and up to +/- 0.1 percent line accuracy, optimal for users who need precise designs, maps, renderings, and line drawings.

Smallworld Core Spatial Technology, from GE Energy, is a geographic information system (GIS) that helps companies manage networked assets and infrastructure. The product models real world assets (e.g., pipes, wires, roads, equipment, etc.), enabling companies to understand where their assets are located and how they are interconnected to deliver service to customers. Smallworld Core Spatial Technology 4 builds on the product's established base and delivers an updated product interface that improves usability across the product range.
