How to assemble a HP DesignJet T830 MFP printer

12 September 2022

Useful Set-Up Tips Before you Start:

1. Make space. Protect hard floors (and knees!) with cardboard or a blanket

2. Make sure you have paper for test printing (A4 sheet & roll)

3. Take the box or it's individual components and place it in the printer's final destination. Don't set it all up, install the inks and then try to lift it upstairs as this may cause ink to run out (if you've already installed the inks). If ink spills onto your electronic components you may face a nasty repair bill of over £500 to put right.

4. Don't throw out any packaging until your printer is tested/working perfectly

5. If something doesn't work / item missing, then call HP on 0207 660 0403

6. Where there are labels on parts, such as 'L' or 'R', it means you have to connect another piece to it, with the same letter

How to Assemble:

Brief Outline of work: Put the stand pieces together, have 2 people lift the printer onto the stand, get it aligned, screw printer to the stand, remove all internal packaging, make a cuppa and call IT to set it all up for you. If you are IT you can phone HP on 0207 660 0403 for help if you get stuck.

1. Locate the stand pieces and lay them all out. You have (1) Metal stoppers (2) Right leg (3) Right foot (4) Left leg (5) Left foot (6) Basket frame (7) Screwdriver - if you have your own magnetic screwdriver grab that as it will be easier! (8) cross brace (if this is missing, it's the new stand design which doesn't require a cross brace)

2. In one of the legs you'll find the multisheet tray packaged up. Take it out. The piece of foam should be retained for step 4.

3. Fix the left foot to the left leg, right foot to the right leg using 4 screws per leg.

4. Next grab the piece of foam from the multisheet tray and place it to your right. Grab the cross brace and ensure the right end of the cross brace is placed on the piece of foam - ensuring the yellow plastic parts are facedown. This helps stabilise it to fit the leg on that side.

5. Looking down you should have the rolled-up material on the cross brace furthest away from you, and the metal bar at the front nearest to you, with the piece of foam holding up the cross brace on the right-hand side.

6. Slot a leg into the cross brace on your right. The long foot end should be closest to you with the 3 holes in the leg facing you too. Match each leg to the cross brace label e.g. 'L' on the Cross Brace means fit the leg labelled 'L' on that side. The legs should just slot into place. On each side there are 3 holes where the leg meets the cross brace.

7. Grab your screwdriver and - important bit - only turn each screw 2 times to partially fix the leg to the cross brace on the inner leg face. You will be tightening them up properly later.

8. Slide the foam to the order side of the cross brace and repeat the process to fit the other leg.

9. Turn the stand upright and admire your handiwork. Next you need to find 4 screws to tighten everything up. On the outside of each leg you'll see 2 screw holes. Screw in the screws for each side. Now fully tighten the 3 screws on each side that you were previously told to only turn 2 times ONLY. Now LOCK each of the wheels by pressing the tab downwards on the wheel.

10. Next, take the 2 metal stoppers and install them on the side where the rolled-up material is located i.e. either side of the roll. There is only 1 correct position for the stopper.

11. Remove the tapes and unfold the fabric.

12. Take the basket frame ( [ ) and insert it into the end of the fabric. The long pole should end up being slotted into the end of the fabric and the 2 ends should be firmly clipped into the feet.

13. Remove the tapes from the bottom of the box and remove the tray and box - then uncover printer by removing all tape/bags/polystyrene etc.

14. Locate the yellow parts on the stand to install the printer onto it. Ensure the metal stoppers are fitted on the back of the stand to assure the printer is in the correct position.

Locate yellow parts on stand to install and check metal stoppers at back of stand

15. Have 2 people lift the printer onto the stand. Ensure each yellow part fits into a hole in the printer. Also check the lateral marks on the printer (top outside of printer leg) are aligned with the mark on the printer. You'll then find 4 black screws to affix the printer fully. You'll need to do this from underneath the printer. First insert all 4 black screws and then tighten them.

16. Locate the two refeed preventer mounts on the scanner input platen - simply clip them into position on the mounts

17. Remove the orange tapes from the top and rear of the printer as well as the protective film from the front panel and printer's surface. Remove all the transparent tapes from the printer and the dessicant bag at the rear of the printer.

18. Open the roll cover and remove the protective film and remove the 2 spindle tapes and retainers.

19. Open the printhead cover and remove the protective foam and plastic covers. Close the printhead door. IMPORTANT: Do not touch the printhead or blue latch, no printhead installation is required at the moment.

20. Install the multi-sheet tray that was unpacked earlier.

21. Open the front window. Rotate and remove the pin(s) from inside the printer. Once all protective foams are removed, close all the covers that were opened. Connect the power cable to the printer and the outlet. Connect the printer with the Ethernet cable if you plan to connect by LAN. If not you can connect using WiFi later following the front panel instructions.

22. Once all of the cables are connected, check the printer is ON.  Set your language and confirm it, then select your country/region and also confirm it. Select the date and time and confirm it. A message will appear on the front panel asking you to add the ink cartridges. Open the ink cartridge cover.

23. Insert the 4 ink cartridges clicking them into place. Once the 4 ink cartridges are installed, close the cover. Follow the front panel alignment instructions. This will take around 6 minutes. The printer will ask you to load the paper to align the printhead. Extend the input and output trays. You will be asked to load an A4 sheet into the multi-sheet tray; load sheet, adjust the tray, press OK. Printhead alignment will be initialised. If the printer is connected via LAN connection will be automatic. If you prefer to connect via WiFi please follow the instructions on the front panel to select a network and introduce the details.
